Buzz Lightyear is one of the main characters in the groundbreaking Pixar CGI movie series "Toy Story". A space ranger captain of the Intergalactic Alliance, Buzz Lightyear is based in Sector 4's Gamma Quadrant. He is a courageous spacefarer, although he can be pompous and dense at times. He also adheres to rules and the law, which he espouses as the only way to live one's life. He can also be too stubborn, often to the detriment of those around him. Still, his good nature wins out in the end. Buzz is in great physical condition, and highly efficient in weaponry and skilled in martial arts.
As a sort of homage to the Star Wars movie The Empire Strikes Back, Toy Story 2 hints that the leader of one of the forces of evil, Emperor Zurg, is his father. However, the television series reveals this to simply be one of Zurg's nefarious plans to undermine him and his leadership of the Alliance. He is often touted as one of the best space rangers who have the adulation of many.
Buzz Lightyear is always seen in a retro-flavored, stylized space suit. He has a clear, light green globe for a helmet, and a mostly-white outfit. The chest of his outfit hosts a control panel. One side of the suit features a hard-to-miss button which initiates flight. The button causes the backpack's wings to fold out, while simultaneously starting the booster rockets at the backpack's bottom. The wings have red and green blinkers.
The right side of the spacesuit has some controls, one of which allows him to contact or alert the Star Command headquarters and his allies. The suit is supposedly built of high-technology materials which can soften the blows of the strongest physical attacks, as well as guard against telepathy. His spacesuit also allows him to survive the cold vacuum of outer space. The helmet swings up and down to enable him to breathe in oxygenated atmospheres.
His suit's wrist hosts a mini-computer which serves as his mission log. The other arm has gauges, a speaker and a small laser cannon. The wings and rockets allow him to maneuver through space.
